acting my age

often, when i happen to strike up a conversation with a stranger, they ask how old i am. it could be the manicurist, a fellow classmate at the gym or just someone i happened be in line with. they always say that i look a lot younger than my age. i can understand that. being "challenged" in the height department and being baby faced does that. i don't mind it at all.

what's on my mind is that i can't see myself acting my age. more truthfully is i don't know how to think like my age. i'm talking life experiences here...what one has gone through to get where they are now and they come out more worldly in the process.

here i am, a few months away from turning thirty. i don't think i have gone through enough to own the age of 30. i feel like i'm still green to this world, like everybody knows more about life than me, or has a more in depth perception of the situation than me.

how can i guide to my daughter as she grows if i feel that i'm not grown up enough?

She said what!

At 20 months, Clara may be a bit late in talking. The babies I know that are her age or younger already have a number of words in their vocalbulary. What did I have? Just "mama". There is "dada" but she would call anybody that. There is also "der der" which could mean anything she's pointing to. I worry about it (in the back of my mind) but I could see that she knows the words but when I try to teach her to how say a word, she'll just smile shyly and either hug me or run away to play.

I reassure myself saying it is because we are a bilingual household. Everybody at home speaks English and Tagalog. Clara is exposed to English and Tagalog tv shows. She is very vocal and can understand when she's been talked to and talked about (in both languages). I rationalize that she just needed time to figure out everything in her head.

Yesterday, Clara uttered her first real word other than "mama". My sister-in-law called to her and Clara responded with Ano? ...which is the Filipino word for "what". My SIL got all excited and called me to hear what Clara said. SIL called out to Clara again and, with my own eyes, saw her answering with ano? I couldn't believe it...she's finally figuring out how to vocalize the words in her head.

yay!....

relief!...

joy!... she's talking...

sob ( a little on the inside)...

my baby's growing up so fast...

sigh...

Change of Scenery

I decided to change my template altogether. I've been at this for a week now and it's starting to frustrate me. Work is very slow right now hence the time I have on my hands to supposedly fix the flower template. It came out gloomy and that wasn't the mood I was going for.

This is what I feel like doing right now. Have a vacation with hubby, run on the beach and bask in the sun.

******

Have you noticed the lack of holiday pictures here? That's because around the week before Christmas, our old laptop started conking out. It would start up like normal then would suddenly shut down. I had a bad feeling after it happened three times in a row. Good thing I got to burn Clara's picture folder to a cd...just in case it would totally crash on me.... which it eventually did later that night. Last week we got our new laptop delivered....Yay! We got a Dell Inspiron 8600. I don't understand care much about the specs as long as it has a cd burner, is fast and has lots of memory. So this my new baby. Hubby will be "jealous" again coz I'm "pay more attention to the computer than him".

Which probably true...teeheehee :D

Clara got her ears pierced yesterday and she didn't even cry! Good girl! Hubby and I were dreading this since the beginning of the year. We planned to finally do it after putting it off for a long time. In our minds we imagined all the worst case scenarios like her crying hysterically and looking at us like we betrayed her or screaming her head off as we walk through the mall and other people look at us like we're the worst parents in the world. Anyway we got there and she loved all the trinkets that were there. That kept her busy while I filled up the paper work. Once that was done I put her on my lap and the girl cleaned her earlobes and marked them. Clara just sat there and watched her set up everything. Then I was told to hold her head and her arms and in one click the earring was in. Clara didn't even jerk! The other ear was next. I thought that since Clara knows what's coming she'll object this time. But other earring went in without any reaction from her. I even looked at her to see if she was about to cry...nothing! My kid amazes me sometimes :D So after that we gave her a lollipop and we walked around the mall so hubby and I could have some time to settle OUR nerves ;)

Will post a picture of her with her newly pierced ears soon.

Under Construction!

I decided to change my template but I still have to work out some of the kinks.

I don't really like this mustard color but it will have to do for now.

Will post a real entry once I've fixed the page.
