Bloom where you are planted.

This used to be my mantra when I feel disillusioned/restless at work. Most of the time it was enough to get me out of my mental rut but now....

When you've been in a place for so long, it's either you flourish or you stagnate, I used to believe you can make most situations better by how you look at it. It can't be that bad. It all depends on your point of view. You make the job more interesting by learning more about it...expanding your responsibilities to the point you know every in and out of every detail. Make it interesting.

What if you stay in a place for so long, that's all you know. Meaning you are too comfortable where you are at, you can't think outside the box anymore. And when you attempt to explore , you are clueless as to what you are capable of. It doesn't seem to fit any qualifications that are needed out there. In short, you feel outdated.

That's what I'm feeling now. Outdated. I need to refresh myself, workwise. I've been at this job waaaay too long. Time to move on.

The question is...Where to?

Not quite the Social Butterfly

That's my Clara.

Leave her in a room full of kids and she'll go off to a toy that catches her eye and play with it by herself. Or better yet if she sees food, she'll make a beeline for it.

It's not that she's not friendly. She just the type that needs time to "warm up" to people. She's more the assessing kind of kid. She'll stare at you for the longest time with an unflinching gaze. Measuring you up in her mind. After you ignore her for a while, then she starts to warm up to you (go figure). Give her something to eat, you'll be her best friend.

To help get used to being around other people and especially other kids, we take her to children's parties and the play areas in the mall. But these do not happen often enough. Fortunately, my co-worker needed babysitter for her daughter who happened to be the same age as Clara. As soon as I found this bit of news out, I asked my MIL if she would be willing to look after my friend's daughter. She said she would be happy to. After a short visit to my house with her daughter N and her mom, my friend said she would be comfortable leaving N with my MIL.

After a week of looking after Clara and N, MIL remarked how different they are. N would be happy watching TV for at least thirty minutes at a time and not want anything more. At the same amount of time, Clara would be climbing up and sliding down the couch, running around the island in the kitchen, running around the staircase and ask for milk or food in between breaks. N would be asleep for her nap 5 minutes after eating lunch while Clara would take at least an hour to close her eyes and lay down to sleep, this even with my MIL "lullubying" her. My MIL said that looking after 10 Ns would be equal to looking after 2 Claras. That's how opposite they are.

I had this grand image of Clara and N being the best of friends. Giggling, playing and putting makeup on each other. But so far, Clara and N are into different things. Clara likes the Filipino channel. N, understandably, can't relate. Clara likes moving alot. N is happy in front of the tv watching cartoons. Clara likes rice, N doesn't. Oh well.

She can make a connection with other kids when she gets into preschool. In the meantime, I'll just leave her to do her own thing.

just thought I'd share this

The view from Mt. Everest

Awesome isn't it?

That's probably why people still try to reach the top despite how dangerous it is.
