weekend recap

The long weekend went by the way regular weekends go... NOT LONG ENOUGH. As my friend said... the good thing is that although it feels like a Monday, it's not. It's already Tuesday.

As I predicted, we were out of the house a lot this weekend. Saturday started off on the wrong foot but fortunately got back on the right track after a little explanation here and a little understanding there. I took advantage of the Memorial Day sales that were going on and came out with nice additions to my summer wardrobe. The rest of the day was spent at home with an old family friend, reminiscing the past and updating with news on friends from the homeland.

Sunday kicked off with our usual morning coffee and bagels. A short walk around the mall and off the church we went. Visited my FIL and made our way to Tita C's house. Spent the afternoon catching up on showbiz news and watching Clara enjoy cleaning the house of our host (Clara found a doily on one of the chairs and starting wiping the table with it. The same thing happened with a paper towel and the dining table). After a WHOLE day awake and resisting any attempt of a nap on a nice comfy bed, Clara was asleep within five minutes of leaving Tita's house. Bedtime as usual was at 10 o'clock.

Monday was a treat because we had an extra day to enjoy our coffee and bagel at our favorite coffee place. Our usual walk around the mall resulted with new shoes for the hubby and a bright red balloon for Clara. Lunch at the family's favorite Chinese dimsum and an afternoon spent roaming the Fashion District of LA. The evening was perfect with delicious tender steaks, yummy gravy and tangy salad... put together in the comfort of home, a couple of friends who joined us and dessert enjoyed while watching the Miss Universe pageant.

new template!

Finally, all my free time in the office came to good use. I was able to find this template and work out some kinks.

Appropriate for summer that is almost upon us, don't you think?

For some reason it comes out different when viewed on Explorer but looks fine on Safari and Firefox. The fonts are not what they should be and the body should look like this:

I don't what we have planned for this weekend but we have a houseguest coming so I'm sure we'll be out and about.

100 Things about Clara

***Warning: This post is pretty long****

1. She is named after three grandmothers. (my mom, my hubby's grandmother and great-grandmother)
2. She co-sleeps with hubby and me.
3. Clara is definitely a morning person
4. She is determined to make me one too
5. She loves to eat everything, even PlayDoh.
6. Loves fried vegetable rolls, hotdogs and corn.
7. Must to eat a meal with rice at least once a day
8. Swallowed a wad of bubble gum 2 months ago
9. Hasn't been seen since (the gum)
10. Not that anyone wanted to investigate
11. Has a devilishly naughty look.
12. Especially when she tries to sneak a sip of soda while we are not looking
13. She loves to take a bath
14. She can stay in the tub till she wrinkles like a raisin
15. Looks like her dad
16. Stubborn like her mom
17. Walks like a tough guy
18. But deathly afraid of animals, mascots and new kids
19. She would hide her face in my leg till they go away
20. Stops what she's doing to watch TV commercials
21. Used to be bored with cartoons
22. But beginning to like Dora, the Explorer and Sesame Street
23. Not interested in dolls or stuffed animals as toys
24. Thinks of them as something fun to throw on the floor.
25. Or something soft to sit on
26. Has favorite blanket which is actually a sarong I got in Hawaii
27. Showing us inklings of a future techno-savvy individual
28. Loves the cellphone
29. Can "talk" on it like a bonafide CEO
30. Loves the computer...the laptop to be precise
31. Always manages to press the buttons to shut it down
32. Loves the digital camera
33. Probably because most of the pics on it are of her
34. Hates accessories like hats and sunglasses
35. Stays on her for all of approx 3 seconds
36. Barely puts up with wearing a jacket
37. Even if it's the middle of winter
38. Hair accessories? Forget it
39. But she will strut around with jewelry draped on her
40. She's a pretty restless sleeper
41. She has the ability of moving you from your side of the bed to the very edge of it without you know how you got there
42. Hates having the blanket on her
43. Will throw a fit if you attempt to cover her feet in it
44. But part of her bedtime routine is to have a pillow over her body as she nods off to sleep
45. She hated the carseat until 10 months ago.
46. Before that, we couldn't bring anywhere without her screaming her head off.
47. Now she has learned to tolerate it.
48. Mommy and Daddy are thrilled beyond belief.
49. Now if she could learn to love her stroller.
50. Clara was delivered via C-section because she pooped in the womb.
51. And she has been a major pooper ever since.
52. She prefers to poop in a clean diaper.
53. Makes the cutest face while she does the #2
54. She stands like a statue and sometimes grunts with the effort
55. She'll sometimes pat her diaper when she's done.
56. Other times she would wait till the room is infused with the aroma of a dirty diaper.
57. One time, she dipped her hand into her diaper and had her uncle's girlfriend, Mika smell it.
58. To this day, Mika gags at the memory of it.
59. Ok, enough of the poop stories.
60. Clara knows how to act cute especially when she's in trouble.
61. One time she made a mess involving water and a bucket of toys.
62. When she saw I was mad at what she did, she immediately ran to her lola.
63. Came running back into the room with a prayer booklet.
64. Saw me still looking angry, put down the booklet, and folded her hands (as if in prayer).
65. You could almost see the halo on her head (like in the cartoons).
66. Needless to say she got off with a warning.
67. She loves Body Shop's Body Butter in Nut.
68. Before settling in to sleep, she points to her legs and to the body butter.
69. After putting it on, she always smells her hands and says "Mmmmm".
70. She has to be in her pajamas when it's bedtime.
71. Which is ok, right?
72. Problem is, I have to change into my pajamas too.
73. Even, if I'm not ready to sleep yet.
74. I try to explain to her that I'll change later but she's adamant.
75. So I change, like the whipped mom that I am.
76. She has this habit of scratching her arms, her neck and her tummy when she's about to drift off to sleep.
77. I'm trying to break her habit by cutting her nails really short.
78. So far, the scratching continues.
79. Clara likes having Vicks rubbed on her back at night.
80. Whether she has a cold or not.
81. Her bedtime ideally is 8:00 pm
82. In reality she goes to bed at 10:00 pm.
83. She is afraid of loud noises like the garbage truck and dirt bikes.
84. I think it's because when she was still a few months old, she would be startled awake by the garbage truck.
85. She also gets startled when you catch her doing something that she's not supposed to be doing.
86. If she's being very quiet and "good" is usually a telling sign.
87. When you walk in on her and say "Hey" or "Huy!" she jumps and looks at you with a completely guilty look on her face.
88. And though you have to clean up her mess you can't be completely angry at her coz she'll one step ahead of you.
89. She'll smother you with hugs, kisses and disarming smiles. Who could resist that?
90. Clara rarely smiles for the camera.
91. She looks straight into the lenses with a expressionless face, then smiles after the click.
92. Regardless of that fact, she's got tons of pictures.
93. She is the center of attention of our household.
94. She has taught me the value of patience.
95. And how effective a deep breath is to calm one's temperament (mine)
96. She is spunky.
97. She is strong willed.
98. She is my teacher and my baby.
99. She is my world.
100. She was born on 5/18 at 5:18 am.

Baby Talk

Last night

Points to her back and says "biksh"

Me: Itch?
Clara: Biksh (pointing to her back)
Me: Pants?
Clara: Biksh (pointing to the bathroom)
Me: What?
Clara: Biksh
Me: (light dawns) Oh, Vicks!


This morning

Clara takes a sock out of her drawer.

Looks at it.

Points and says "Cock".

UPDATE:

This afternoon

Clara took a bite of ice cream.

Scrunched up her shoulders and put her fists to her cheeks
and exclaimed "Hot!"
