But first, the rules to this meme game: Remove the blog at #1 from the following list and bump every one up one place. Add your blog's name in the #5 spot; link to each of the other blogs for the desired cross pollination effect.
1. Tales From My Tiny Kingdom 2. Busy Mom 3. Tale of a baby Human 4. Mrs. Flinger 5. Me and Mine
Next: select new friends to add to the pollen count. (No one is obligated to participate--forgive me if you've already done it and I haven't seen it yet.)
1) having a tax free pay day aka allowance Gone are the days were all I had to do was hold out my hand and a coin or two (during my time) would be dropped into my open palm. With it a candy or nick nack "shopping spree". Nowadays, I get my tax-deducted paycheck knowing I have my bills waiting to devour it up.
2) lazy afternoons I miss the good ole days where I had the whole day to myself. I usually spent it reading a book. I'd settle in my bed and lose myself in it whether it was a mystery, a romance or an action filled paperback. Now I don't had time or even the frame of mind to sit back and concentrate on reading a book. It seems that my mind won't settle down to relax and read a couple chapters of a chick lit.
3) licking the spoon or bowl after making a batch of brownies My mom would bake brownies now and then when we were little. All four of us would eagerly wait for her to finish so we could lick the bowl and mixing spoon. We had dibs who would get the spoon and being the eldest it was usually me, naturally ;) My three siblings would share the mixing bowl and "scrape" the bowl with their fingers, licking the frosting with gusto. I made a batch of brownies myself one time and licked the spoon and scraped the bowl clean. It wasn't as much fun.
4) writing letters by hand I remember writing back-to-back paged letters to my grandma when I was younger. I would tell her my gripes about my brother, my grades in school and whatever I felt like telling her. I would enjoy writing these long letters by hand. Now the pen feels strange in my hand if I have to copy down some text or write down even just a paragraph. Email has taken over letter writing so much that it feels weird to just sit down and write. Pens now are just for list making.
5) summer vacations Who wouldn't miss those two months in a year where you could do whatever you wanted? No tests, no homework, no studying. Playing, biking, swimming and, if we were lucky, an out of town getaway. I got my first job a few months after graduating college. I was so used to having weeks off during the year, that when those months came along, it was a wake up call on my part to realize this is the real world. No more free vacations.
